A DreamScape pond is relaxing, peaceful, calming and tranquil. It is also dynamic, ever changing, mysterious, engaging, beautiful and fun! Can you see how this pond is heart shaped?
The kids are sitting on the meditation rock that is adjacent to the pond. One is invited to cross over the bridge and discover where the journey leads around the pond.
This pond is lit with large and medium size LED lights throughout. It is wonderful to see the bright colors of the fish pop at night.
The plants are only a few months old in this picture, and they are already bursting with beauty. The wall in the background needed to go higher, so we installed pre-framed lattice and painted it all green, to blend in with the vines we had planted.
We used LED underwater and landscape lighting to turn this into a magical wonderland at night.
The different areas of this yard make it possible for up to 150 people to be in the yard comfortably. You can see the meditation rock just above the pond in the lower right corner of the picture.
This is Deanna Mcmahan. Together, we created a true masterpiece landscape - "Casa De Suenos" - 'House of Dreams'
Curving tile pathway, select fir/pine bark chips, beautiful black rod iron hand rails. The attention to detail on this project is incredible.
The front wall is beautiful with a custom rustic gate. There is a step stone pathway that leads from the front tile path to the gate.
This Antique Fountain is over 100 years old! I purchased and installed the basin on the bottom. We drilled custom holes in it to allow the water to trickle down and make a really beautiful sound. We had it custom detail painted and installed lights on all three rows. I LOVE this fountain!
Both the fountain and the Camellias in this picture are over 100 years old. They add a lot of warmth and maturity to this dazzling landscape.
L.E.D. under water lights were installed in this fountain for all three rows. We installed the fountain before the stonework.
Pass the fountain and enter a magical realm where anything is possible. You see on the left our first glimpse of the Buddhas Grotto. On the right is our first stone bench and our custom curving 'Spirit' arch, pointing up to the Divine. Check out the amazing detail paint restoration that was done on the fountain...
Yes, that is fruit at the top of this cornucopia fountain. You can see where the water is coming out of the top.
The lights in the pillars flanking the rustic gate work. The gate sets an 'old world' tone to the entire back yard.
This yard is an absolute entertainers paradise!
This relatively small yard feels huge, because there are so many different areas to go to. This patio is the 'zen' area of the yard, meant to invoke a sense of calm and tranquility, amongst the elder Japanese Maples.
This stone grotto wraps around a basalt water fountain that has a light in the top where the water comes out. We glued precious crystals and stones around the base of where the Buddha is sitting. We planted black bamboo in the background, it is dramatic, mystical and beautiful. The path is so inviting too!
This tile entrance was designed to make the journey from the curb to the front door a delight. Flanked by Lamium ground cover, this path sets a warm tone for this amazing DreamScape.
We custom designed and created this redwood arch, designed to point everyones attention up toward Spirit. Once you pass through the arch, there is an option to go up the straight wood steps on the right, or the curving stone steps on the left.
We created circular borders of Azalea and Hydrangia around the front trees. The entire front yard was irrigated with drip lines to conserve water.
This is what the plants looked like right after we planted them in this butterfly garden. The plants are all 5' tall today, and bursting with flowers that hummingbirds love!
I caught this love filled moment during a celebration party for the landscape and remodel completion. The bridge invokes a sense of wonder, possibility and majesty.
There are carp, mosquito fish, goldfish, koi fish, catfish and a turtle in this magical water world. It calms the mind and soothes the soul just to sit by a DreamScape Pond, day and night.
It doesn't take long for my surrounding plants to grow up and over the edges of our DreamScape
Looking through the 'Spirit Arch', one immediately sees the custom designed and constructed spa in the back yard. To the right of the spa is a Pondless Waterfall that appears to fall into the spa. To the left of it, water appears to emerge from the spa and flow into the pond, but it is all an illusion!
All flat surfaces (stairs, paths & patios) on this project were created with Elk Mountain Stone. All vertical stone surfaces were created with Granite stone.
Front and center is the Butterfly Garden, surrounded by our vegetable and herb borders. All stones on the top of the border walls were ground down flat so that they also can serve as benches to sit on.
Here is our Pondless Waterfall that appears to fall right into the spa. The plants have all fully grown in now, and almost none of the structural rock holding up the waterfall can be seen.
This is what the landscape looked like brand new. The plants are huge now, and the yard feels warm and embracing to all.
The design layout and proportion of this outdoor living space is sublime. Everything has its space, with nothing dominating the flow of the yard.
What you see in this picture is the result of 25 years experience. The stone benches, walls, steps and spa coping are all blending together perfectly.
We worked with wood, stone, soil, irrigation, water and plants to create this DreamScape come true!
We carefully choose stones that would create the edge look that you can see where the stone wall becomes flat. On the right is the herb garden, complete with mint, freshly planted parsley, dill, chives, basil, thyme and oregano. On the left is the freshly planted vegetable garden. It had Persian cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes & eggplant.
We used Redwood for all visible wood surfaces on both sides of this gate flanked by small fences topped with lattice. This double sided gate had to be self closing by code, because of the spa in the back yard. So we put a simple spring on the driveway and it did the job perfectly.
We did a very good quality soil preparation for all of the plant borders in the back yard. The result - giant plants! For some strange reason, many plants in this landscape are growing far beyond their normal size! This is what it looked like before we did a spring trim...
That is not a grass lawn in the forefront of the picture, it is a hand planted Lillyturf or Ophiopogon lawn. I believe this picture was taken on the day we finished planting. Had a blast working with Deanna on this project.
There is an intangible magic that comes with a DreamScape. Our water features and landscapes grow up. They have their own characters that change over time.
The illusion that we created here starts with the Pondless Waterfall in the background. The water flows down it and apparently into the custom spa. From there it appears to flow out, down the stream and into the pond. Note the second stream coming from under the bridge.
This Aquascape 4000-8000 gallon per hour pump is on its lowest setting for this picture.
Turtle, Catfish, Koi fish, Carp fish, Mosquito fish, dragonflies, butterflies, hummingbirds, sparrows, bluejays etc. etc. All the local nature benefits from a clean living source of properly circulating water, like this one.
Yup, these Koi ad goldfish, along with 2 yellow catfish are all really small in this picture compared to how huge they are today! They all come a running when they hear me shaking their food jar.
Dragonfly on top of a Canna Lilly, overlooking the pond.
The fence in the background has planks on both sides to keep sound out. The bamboo along it is black, which is the most expensive and beautiful. The stone patio is made from Elk Mountain stone, rare and exquisite.
Heaven..., plants are about a year old in this pic. Veggie garden on the right looking great.
Here is the view of the Zen garden & patio area from the breakfast nook. On the right, in the sunlight is our Japanese Maple - Sangu Kaku. To the left of it is a shorter but much older (@75 years old) dwarf Japanese Maple. The landscape invites ones imagination to come out and play.
This bench is actually comfortable, with a seat that leans down and a backrest that leans back. This magical pathway is so inviting. The ground cover is Violet.
The LED lighting throughout the landscape and water features is perfect. Giving just enough light to be able to use the entire area, without being too bright.
Basalt stone circulating fountain water feature. Buddha with precious stones and large rose quartz crystals around the base. Buddha looks happy.
